admin April 18, 2022
As a Pennsylvania homeowner you’ll soon be relying on your air conditioning system when summer arrives. Would you say that your air conditioning equipment is ready to keep up with your needs, or will it fall behind? Keep an eye out for these tell-tale signs that you may be due for an air conditioning system upgrade! No Cool Air This probably won’t be difficult to notice! If you’re feeling warm air instead of cold air coming from your AC, your system could be out of refrigerant, or its compressor could be failing. Poor Air Flow While this could be caused by debris buildup or dirty filters, it can also be another sign of compressor failure and an impending breakdown. Signs of Water Leakage Any moisture found pooling up around your AC could be either water or refrigerant. Either way, get it checked out! Noisy Operation Squealing, grating and grinding sounds that are coming from your AC system will be more noticeable than the normal background sounds you’ve gotten used to. High Utility Bills Over time, AC system efficiency degrades. With that degradation, your utility costs will begin to increase – in spite of the fact that you use your AC as much as you did during the previous years. Turn your AC on to check and see if it’s working properly, and if you notice any issues be sure to call Harris Comfort right away! The springtime is an ideal time to think about upgrading your air conditioning system so that it’s up to the challenge of the summer. What the Size of Your AC Means for Your Summer Comfort
admin April 18, 2022
Pennsylvania homeowners might think that bigger is always better, but when it comes to their air conditioning system that isn’t always the case! Conversely, there is such thing as going too small as well. So what’s the right answer? An air conditioning system that fits perfectly in your home! The reason there’s no one-size-fits-all AC system is because everybody’s needs and homes are different – and an improper fit means a difficult time enjoying the comforts of home. Here’s why! Equipment that is too small will… Run almost indefinitely, unable to reach the set temperature and increasing energy costs Not be able to effectively remove moisture from the air, leaving the home feeling humid Deliver very little or no airflow, prompting homeowners to crank up the system – which only helps to raise utility costs! Equipment that is too large will… Cycle on and off constantly, increasing wear and tear on the equipment and potential repair needs Use more energy each time it has to start back up again Create uneven temperatures throughout the home and provide poor humidity control A properly sized AC system helps homeowners avoid spiking utility costs, needless repairs and poor humidity control – which is all too important for the typically hot and humid summer season! Springtime Propane Safety Tips for Pennsylvania Homeowners
admin April 18, 2022
Propane is one of the safest sources of energy for homeowners, and with it being widely used during the spring thanks in no small part to its versatility, we know it’s important that our customers understand how to maintain propane’s streak of safety! Check out some springtime propane safety tips, and share them with your friends and neighbors who use propane. Know how to shut off the propane supply both at the main tank and at each propane appliance. If you’re unsure how to do this, please contact us so that we may assist you! Familiarize yourself and anyone else in your home with the smell of propane, which is similar to that of a rotten egg odor or skunk spray, in order to better detect propane leaks. Follow the tips below on what to do if you detect a propane leak! Never store propane cylinders in an enclosed area, such as a basement, garage or shed. Store them outdoors, and always in an upright position. Install carbon monoxide (CO) detectors on every level in your home, paying particular attention to bedrooms. Maintain them according to manufacturer’s instructions. If severe weather is in the forecast, make sure you have enough propane in your tank for at least a week after the weather is supposed to let up. If you have a propane-fueled backup generator, be sure to have it serviced at least once a year. Take the time to also review these steps with your family and develop a plan of action in case of a propane leak: Extinguish all smoking materials and any other open flames or sources of ignition. Everyone should vacate the area. Move away without using any electrical switches, appliances, thermostats or telephones Close the gas shutoff valve on the propane tank, if safe to do so Call Harris Comfort and/or your local fire department from a mobile phone or a neighbor’s telephone after you have left the area Do not re-enter the area until a qualified Harris Comfort technician or first responder says it is clear Be sure to have a Harris Comfort technician come and inspect your equipment, to ensure another leak won’t occur when the propane is turned back on If you’re a homeowner who relies on propane to fuel their home, we hope you find these tips helpful!
