How to Tell If Your Home Is Properly Insulated
admin April 18, 2022
By now you may have noticed how well (or how poorly) your home is able to retain heat and keep cool air out. One key factor to the comfort in your home during the winter is insulation, so ask yourself, “is my home properly insulated for the cold weather ahead?” Here’s how you can tell! You shouldn’t be freezing in one room and feeling warm in another. If you do, these uneven temperatures are a giveaway that your home is under-insulated. Proper insulation will keep all of the warm air you pay for inside your home. If you notice that your energy bills have been increasing from year to year, that air might be escaping through uninsulated spaces! When drywall and paneling inside the home feels damp or cold, there’s not enough insulation between the cold environment outside and the cold walls, floors and ceilings inside. Sometimes not having enough insulation around doors and windows can result in cold drafts in certain areas of the home during the winter months. Without enough insulation, there’s a greater chance for your home to experience problems with frozen pipes – which, if left unattended, could lead to burst pipes and costly water damage. If you think your home isn’t properly insulated, consider looking into adding or upgrading the insulation in open spaces such as your attic or basement, and anywhere else that’s easily accessible. Time to Replace Your Heating System? What to Look For!
admin April 18, 2022
As the heating season begins again, you might be wondering if it’s a good time to replace your heating system. It’s not a decision to take lightly, and we’re happy to help you determine whether or not it is the right move to make now, well before winter arrives. Here are a few signs that your heating system might be due for an upgrade: You’ve had it for more than 15 years: When your furnace nears the end of its operational life, it’s becoming less efficient and more costly to maintain. Higher energy bills: Are your energy bills suddenly higher than usual despite you using the same amount of energy? This could point to an issue with your furnace. Costly repairs: If repairs are expensive, it might make more sense to upgrade. While a replacement furnace might cost more at the outset, the long term savings of a more efficient system may be worth it. Uneven temperatures: If you’re dealing with hot and cold spots throughout your house, that’s a telltale sign your furnace isn’t efficiently delivering hot air. Exterior damage: If there are signs of obvious disintegration on the outside of your furnace, it’s important to get it taken care of before it becomes a serious hazard. Noisy: Rattling, humming, popping or screeching noises are not just annoying, they’re also signs of potential failure or issue in need of repair. Keep an eye (and ear) open for these indications that your heating system might be in need of an upgrade, and if you experience any of these problems give us a call to discuss your options!...
